On the Eighth Day They Rested.

We slept in. I seriously needed that! We have a small apartment rented in Eilat and it’s blissful. No battling with the shower to keep it hot, no breaker flipping from too many heaters running, and we can flush our toilet paper instead of putting it in a trash can.

First stop Pharmacy to get more Advil and a nail clipper. I was sure I had packed one but it hasn’t surfaced. From there it was straight to Red Canyon and it’s fun ladders and beautiful scenery. It’s an ideal hike, not so hard you get pooped but plenty of exciting spots. We exited just as five bus loads of kids were dumped out. Phew! That’s been a teeny problem, all the school trips at these National Parks.

Rain threatened on and off, but we headed for Timna Park where we could do some more hiking and tour the Tabernacle that has been built there. It’s a to scale model and is quite impressive. The tour guide was a real evangelist and very happy that with us he could talk about Jesus. Apparently their not allowed to with the Jewish tours. There was some sort of big Mountain Bike race there and bikers were streaming in from all over. Funny thing was they all looked over 50.

On our way back to the apartment we stopped to buy some black tape for our bumper. Narrow steep streets + traffic + sun in the eyes + blind turn + post = crunch. We’ve been flapping for a few days now but finally decided it was enough. Interestingly the crack uncovered the drywall screws and epoxy that had been used last time something happened. Now it looks practically as good as new. A little spray paint and you’d never think of it.

The military presence around Eilat is huge. Just out of town there is a big compound set up with missile interceptors. The hills are dotted with watch huts, some fairly camouflaged and every off road spot says “No Entry. Shooting Area.”

The other day on the boat we heard several loud booms but didn’t know to check the skies to see if we could see intercepted missiles. We were fairly close to the Gaza Strip at the time. Next time.

Do you know what looks funny? A cat trying to back down a narrow plaster wall that’s at a 30* angle.
