Kumi Town

Kumi

Today we stayed around town. The guys worked in the shop and I did laundry and looked for my sunscreen. Occasionally Heath and I would walk over to the shop and dangle around, listening to all the funny people that stopped by.

A jolly guy with pants and shirts for sale swung by and managed to get rid of a few shirts to our crowd. Just as he was leaving, he spied the red spray paint siting there and he decided he wanted his phone case painted. Lance was happy to oblige, and the nice looking blue case suddenly became a runny red case that simply wouldn’t dry. He stuck it in the sun and kept poking it to check, but last I saw it still wasn’t dry.

Lunch was at Kumi Orthopedic Hospital. I know, who in their right mind goes to a hospital to eat, but it was seriously good food. CSI runs their children program through this Hospital so Trevor was spending the day there consulting with patients and doctors. It’s a really nice hospital, I was totally impressed!

More people showed up at the shop in the afternoon, including a man who’s elevator didn’t quite reach the top floor. He handed me a newspaper with a flourish and told me that I needed to read it to stay informed. It was good to be progressive. I happily obliged, and chuckled over all the little scribbles and circling of random words that were littered across the pages. Meanwhile he went to “instruct” Forrest on the proper use of tools, much to the delight of everyone else hanging around. He then leapt over to the local water source, filled a bottle and rushed back to “wash our hands like Jesus did”. From there he flowed into the spirit of gift giving, and desperately tried to give me a pen. Heath got him distracted by asking if he was a preacher and he said we were his testers. And wow he could preach! He paced around, “In the beginning, the word was with God…” and on and on, spit was flying and we laughed our heads off. When it was time to clean up, my goodness, he rushed around picking stuff up and hauling it in. Serious Energy.

It was the guy’s night to cook so we couldn’t stay out too late. We also had to pack up to get ready to go to Kenya for the weekend. Seems we’ve hardly been here and time’s already short:/
