Cheetah and Other Stuff

The guys really wanted to visit the Masai Mara again. Apparently when you’re young you don’t notice how terrible the road going to it is. Heath and I remembered, but we were enthused if they were, so at 6:30 am we took off for the park. We had no breakfast, no packed lunch and the amenities between here and the park are a bit slim. We found a supermarket open that had bread, peanut butter and jelly and some sort of cold sodas. Honestly, after all the food we saw yesterday we weren’t too concerned. None of us would be starving any time soon.

The roads were even worse than my mind had imagined and it took a good three hours to reach the gate of the Mara Triangle. Thankfully it hadn’t rained, or we might still be driving.

The Mara was everything it should be. Lots of animals everywhere. Seems like every time we go there is a “season” and this time it was cats. We saw three cheetah, two male lions lolling on the road and a large pride of lions. We counted 13, but it was hard to count cause they were all sleeping in clumps or rolling on their backs with their paws in the air. It was pretty epic!

Our pb&j’s tasted pretty good under a tree! Normally I find them quite yuck, but not today. Might have helped that we scared up a hyena close to the picnic tree. That’s a fun addition to a picnic.

We left the park just before dark and started our crashing way home. This time Heath drove quite a bit faster and we all decided that was better. Our necks were sore from bracing and we all sounded a little mentally disturbed by the time we reached the tarmac. It felt luxurious to arrive back at Randy’s house and cook up a big skillet of fresh eggs for supper.
