Why, you ask, am I sacked out in the Sioux Falls Airport with my legs elevated? Because I can’t say No. That’s why. I plain and simply can’t say no when I have a chance to hike the Grand Canyon again. When I not only survived but actually enjoyed my hike last time, I was so stoked, but also hugely relieved that I could stop the grinding training that it had entailed. Finally! More time to work in the garden, go camping, lay in the hammock and just embrace summer. But then Heath was planning to do a Rim2Rim2Rim with Darwin and Andrew, and Darwin’s wife, Kim, really wanted to do a Rim2Rim again, and it all started to sound rather attractive! I have never actually seen the North Rim, so that sounded epic. And hiking when it was cooler seemed fun. But when they mentioned they wanted to start down at 1:00am and do the first part in the dark, I was in. Something about descending into the blackness seemed enormously fun! Bring it on! Goodbye garden and hammock. Hello loooooong boring walks that really weren’t that bad. Except for that one where I got positively attacked by all the mosquitos in Kingsbury County. Compression Sock shopping commenced, since my lovely legs tend to balloon and rash when I work them too hard. I got onto a first name basis with my blisters, Judy being the most persistent.
We’ll soon be boarding our Phoenix flight, so I’m make this snappy. Plan is to drive up to Grand Canyon for “night”, and head down early, early Friday morning. Can’t wait!
