Calm

There is something absolutely breathtaking about watching a large orange moon rise over distant mountains right after a missile attack. The contrast is almost jarring.

It’s almost 11pm and time to get off the rooftop and go to bed. There were two major waves, with hundreds of missiles flying overhead and we stood on the rooftop with slack jaws. Now it seems peace has been momentarily restored. Matt and Heath got the water going again, so we can flush for at least a day yet. We have all the drinking water we need. Shops are open, and during the day we wouldn’t have had any idea there were things “brewing” except for the media. We languished at the house, did laundry, the kids chased the cats and i read a book. After awhile we started going stir crazy, so we drove around town, visited Lazareth’s tomb, souvenir shopped, visited a mosque and ate supper. The airbnb we’re staying is very near Bethany, which is where Mary, Martha and Lazareth lived. Our tour guide was very Christian, very friendly, and inserted “Hallelujah” whenever possible. The general friendliness of the people cheered our hearts, and we had some good laughs at the wild and wooly West Bank Traffic.

We have very little idea what tomorrow will bring. At this point we plan to visit Bethlehem, going in a minibus with one of our landlady’s friends. She was gonna come too, but is currently stuck in lockdown in Jericho. Police have them barricaded in. Its a much higher risk area of the West Bank than we are in. Israel is still on shutdown and essential business only, so it doesn’t pay to try to go there. We also are quite abit less likely to be hit by a missile in West Bank, so in some ways its a good place to be right now. A little dry, but I’d rather be worried about flushing than worried about being hit. I think there’s only been 5 hits so far and only 3 that caused damage.

Here’s to a good night’s rest…
