I’m sitting on my bed in Abu Dis, bored out of my mind. We’re supposed to be going through Hezekiah’s water tunnel, strolling through Jerusalem streets munching falafel, but no. Sirens woke us at 3:00am and that’s when we first found out about Israel’s attack on Iran. It’s also when Israel basically went into Lockdown, and we’re stuck at the Airbnb. I don’t want to be grumpy about it, cause we’re totally not suffering, but I am fizzed. We’re supposed to stay near our shelters, avoid crowds and not go to the Hospital. The last one shouldn’t be a problem. The airport is shut down until further notice as well.
So what are we doing? Breakfasting in the garden, feeding the cats, shopping local streets and cooking lunch. Massive potatoes and sweet melons were the lunch staples, and now we might try to visit Lazareth’s Tomb. It’s just a short walk from the house. Right now I don’t feel like going out, I don’t feel like “making the best of the situation” and I don’t feel like conserving water. Oh, did I mention the water trucks aren’t coming to fill the tanks and we’re running low? Things could get interesting. We’re not flushing much.
All that being said, we’re not in an unsafe spot. Just a lockdown. The 100 or so drones launched at us earlier today have mostly been shot down. Probably the most unsettling thing is wondering how long this is gonna drag out, if they’ll come to a quick decision, or if we’ll make Abu Dis our new home sweet home till June 28. I guess we can totally feel with the children of Israel now. Is the cloud gonna move today or not. Shall we just hang tight, or start a new plan. And most of all, will there be water? I guess we could strike random rocks and see what happened.
