Good Day

We had a good day. In the morning some of us hiked up Mt Arbel and explored the fortress and caves. It was a little cooler, thank goodness, so that made it much more enjoyable. Israel heat is brutal in the summer.

Our boat captain friend David decided last minute that we could risk going out on his boat, so we spent an hour or more out on the Sea of Galilee, swimming, singing and relaxing. He showed us the boat exits in case the sirens went off. Very helpful, that. They didn’t go off, so we didn’t need to use them. He was actually more worried he’d get yelled at by the Police, cause we really aren’t supposed to gather in groups. Not sure why that makes a difference, but whatever.

Lunch was at Cana, a shwarma shop that ripped us off. We really wanted McDonald’s, but they are all shut down now. Some of these Schmidts wanted to see a foreign McMenu. Maybe in Egypt. Only local joints seem to be operating, and even those are abit sparse.

Nazareth was dead as a door nail, so we didn’t spend much time there before heading back to our Abu Dis refuge for night. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we entered the gate and felt safe again.

This evening we’ll try to hammer out the details of our exodus and tomorrow we’ll leave Israel, Lord Willing.
