We’re safely (we think) ensconced in our hotel rooms in Eilat. Well, the guys who dropped off our rental cars aren’t, as they were having some trouble finding exactly where to drop them. With the country all at half mast, nothing is as straight forward as it should be.
We tried to visit Old City this morning, but every gate is blocked by Police. The St Peter of Gallicantu church was open and empty, so we spent some time in Christ’s prison, singing and talking. From there we bumped through the concrete plant and looked at Samson’s cave, then headed on the Eilat.
The beaches here are full of vacationers, and our hotel is busy as can be. Reception never mentioned a Safe Place, and we didn’t ask. So far Iran has shown no interest in Eilat, and we trust they won’t.
We’re to be at the Taba border at 7am to begin our trek across to Egypt. A tour bus will be waiting on the other side with bottles of mineral water. Aren’t you glad for that detail?!
Jordan is still trying to get us tickets home, and we wouldn’t mind some prayers on that behalf. I’m sure it will all work out, but rebooking 18 people is not for the faint hearted. We don’t really want to lose all our money on the cancelled flights either. So, we’ll see what we can come up with.
I’ll keep you posted.
