“It’s not the destination where you end up, but the mishaps and memories you create along the way”
Penelope Riley
To cut to the chase, we love Israel. It’s history, beauty and hummus completely stole our hearts and now we are eager to share the love with our old and new friends alike. What we offer is a very specific type of tour for a specific type of person. It is for people who are looking to be uncomfortable and understand that it is only by stepping completely outside your comfort zone that you can grow. It’s for fearful growth seekers who do it in spite of their fear. For people who travel for the challenge, not the comfort. People whose eyes sparkle over small food stands and sitting with the locals. It’s for those who join the Bedouin on the beach for an impromptu cup of tea even if you don’t share a common language. If you aren’t into this kind of travel, no worries. There are a dozen other tours to join that will cater to your dreams and you will absolutely love them!
We are not looking to arrange “tour groups”, but rather small groups of hearty individuals ready to explore and embrace the real side of the country. Oh, you’ll also see all the standard tour sites like The Dead Sea, Garden of Gethsemane, Sea of Galilee, Western Wall, Temple Mount and Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In fact, in that last one we’ll perhaps prowl around on the roof top, see a hidden cistern with amazing acoustics and duck into some ancient tombs that date from the time of Christ and were only recently discovered. All things that are impossible for the big groups to do.
Sitting with Heath the other day and discussing our dreams and goals for this venture, we came up with a quirky quiz we thought every potential guest should take.
Are we the right tour for you? Take the Quiz.
Score yourself for each question. 1 being “not at all” and 5 being “yes absolutely. “
- I love to embrace new things even if it scares the tar out of me
- I love eating beans and rice for 5 months so I can afford a plane ticket
- I can easily walk 5 miles and only have to stop and wheeze every 10 minutes on an uphill hike
- I’m a pile of fun
- I am not traumatized by lots of machine guns waving at traffic
- I prefer to skip endless shopping
- I love to have wet feet for half the day
- I am happy as a clam to see meat sticks and pita wraps for 6 consecutive days
- Hot water for showers is negotiable
- I am extremely flexible with plans
- I am very entertaining and happy while stuck in traffic
- It’s a joy to me to push rental cars and build roads
- I love eating at local joints and get the sweats in restaurants with table cloths
- I am quiet in Holy Places
- I love sitting way out in the desert, watching the sun set and hearing nomadic herders call their camels in for night
- I am adept at taping up bumpers with duck tape.
- I thrive on having such a tight schedule that I have to rely on running and prayer to meet all my tours that incidentally usually start 30 minutes late, just as I puff up.
How did you score?
1- 45 points: Do yourself a favor and book with a well known cookie cutter tour. It will still be great.
46-60 points: Yes! We will have so much fun! You will never, ever regret it! Come, let’s totally do it!
61-85 points: There’s a pretty good chance you’ll put us to shame…
In all seriousness, if you are interested, feel free to reach out. No matter your budget, handicaps, or if you have 8 children that want to come, it’d be great to connect.
