Sunday’s weather didn’t lend itself to outdoor activity, so we spent the morning roaming around the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. That’s a really great museum, by the way. From there we strolled Main Street and ended up eating lunch in the historic Irma Hotel. Our dessert came from Rawhide Coffee…warm, delicious lattes.
We also needed a Walmart for a hand held vac. I had brought an old one from home that was working tolerably well, but then Heath used it and decided it was trash. As far as I’m concerned most handheld vacs are trash, but the new one is quite a bit better. At least Heath has used it and it’s still around so it must be.
And then it was back to the Bighorns! Tonight we camped at Leigh Creek, a small campground in a canyon close to Ten Sleep. Ten Sleep Creek splashed right outside our campsite and I slept with my window open so I could hear it at night. Forrest had purchased a tarp at Walmart, so his hammock stayed dry in spite of the occasional drizzle.
Morning found us loath to leave, so we did some exploring. I washed my hair in the convenient creek and Seth and Zach did a full body dip. I guess they thought if their wimpy mom could get her scalp wet it mustn’t be bad. From the screams I heard I believe they found out otherwise. And then they all spent some time accusing me of being a study in contradictions, because if the water is a bit cold I refuse to go waterskiing, but if we’re by a mountain stream I happily poke my head in. Makes perfect sense to me.
Leaving eventually became inevitable, but we took a road less traveled that lead to some gorgeous overlooks, boondocking spots and a rock slide! A fairly recent one too. Big old boulders and snapped off branches were strewn along the road. The size of the holes those things make when they bounce is quite alarming. An RV wouldn’t stand a chance. Someone had cleared enough that we could carefully ease our way through. Of course we had to stop, get out and take a closer look. I set off down the road to sightsee, and when I looked back all 4 men were straining away at large boulders. And that’s what they did for the next 15 minutes. Shoved rocks around and made more landslides. Cool I guess. I mean, what else is there to do in such a gorgeous spot? And then some silent signal must have gone off because they all stopped shoving, hopped back in the RV, and we headed off. Heath asked what I’d been seeing when I was just staring out over the valley. Nothing. Just the scenery.
